The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the arts of performing, and which we now know by the name of Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her to being in the "child prodigy" category. For a child from Irish background, surrounded by talented parents and family, these were very natural traits. Maureen was born in this cosy haven, August 17, 1920. She was raised by the family of her parents. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was a skilled contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin and also owned part of the renowned Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athletic natural and loved playing sporting games. Her talent for performing was a perfect complement to her interest in sport. Her winning of almost all Feis prizes for her own nation's theatre and drama was a testament to this. When she turned 14, she was invited to the prestigious Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre and operatic singing.
